Travel to Our Final Destination: Mission, Texas (in the Rio Grande Valley)

We are both ready to get to where we will be settling in for the winter (Nov '14 through end of March '15).  I always get excited when we start seeing palm trees, HEB signs, What-a-Burger signs, as I know we are getting close to our destination:  Rio Grande Valley (southern Texas).

This winter season (2014) we are going to workcamp at Bentsen Palms RV Resort.  Bob's job is to be the boat captain and I am his first mate.  We will give pontoon rides on the Rio Grande River to groups of 8 people.

When we arrived at Bentsen Palm RV Resort we parked our home on wheels in the site that was reserved for us.  Almost all the workcampers were set us in the sites at the entrance of the park.  Our friends, Ginger & Jesse were going to be set up in a site next to ours; as Ginger was going to work in the Office.  Our work doesn't officially begin till Nov. 15th but they wanted the workcampers to be there by Nov 1 so we could get familiar with the park & area, as well as meet the other workcampers.

Finally we were finished getting things done in Elk City, OK, so we departed the next morning.  We traveled to Amarillo TX.  That evening we ate dinner at Salt Grass and we both thought our meal was excellent.

Toured the Elk City Museum Complex (National Route 66 Museum & More) - 10/24/14

Since we have had a lot of time to kill the past few days, we decided to go to the Elk City Museum Complex which consists of the Old Town Museum, Transportation Museum, Farm & Ranch Museum/Blacksmith Shop and the National Route 66 Museum.

They charged us $5.00 each and that allowed us to go to all of the museums.  We both thought it was $5.00 well spent.  All of the buildings are within walking distance from each other and all the displays were nicely done.  This, I'm sure, is a popular destination for school trips, groups, and area tourists.

Below are some pictures that I took while we were there:

There were numerous collections on display.  Wow, they even had a Popeye collection....we use to watch Popeye on TV when we were kids.

So much more to see...and it looked like they are still working on the museum complex as they were putting in more sidewalks.  We recommend if you are ever in the area of Elk City OK that you take some time out and tour this very nice museum complex.

Good Day!!!
