After that, we took a ride to Wind Cave National Park. The park has 33,851 acres of prairie grassland and ponderosa pine forest. It also has one of the longest and most complex caves in the world. It currently has over 142 miles of twisting passageways residing under only 1.2 square miles of surface area. We didn't go tour the cave but we watched the movie at the Visitor Center and looked at the displays.

We, then, went to Custer SD and had lunch and then walked around & went in some of the shops.
Custer has many full size buffalo's lining the streets, all unique & artsy.
Tomorrow we depart this area at 9:00 am in route to Sheridan WY.

In Sheridan, you can see the remains of old Fort Phil Kearney, which was burned by the Sioux and Cheyenne Indians after Chief Red Cloud won a war with the US Cavalry.
ReplyDeleteThe site of the Fetterman Massacre is nearby, as is the site of the Wagon Box Fight.
Eaton's Ranch is nearby. That is where Kelly worked two summers between college semesters. Plan a full day at the Custer Battlefield. Lots to see there. Wish we were with you.
Devil's Tower is on the way to Sheridan. Have Fun
For some reason we missed touring through Custer on our trip through that area.
