As we were paying for our campsite, a lady walked behind the counter. I recognized her, and was trying to figure out where I knew her from (as she was doing the same thing...could tell by the expression on her face)...it came to me that she was a workcamper at Amazon in Coffeyville, KS when we worked there. I said "Amazon" and then she smiled and said that she knew she recognized Bob. Her husband was sitting behind her and said, "yes, I recognized him also"....funny, how you almost always run into someone you know or have been acquainted with at some time. They got here the first part of June and are workcamping here until probably after Labor Day weekend. They have seen a lot of the loop here in Alaska. FYI: A lot of people from the lower 48 states workcamp in Alaska, and from what we have seen, Alaska was in need of more help and had openings to fill.
Along the route to Valdez, I took some pictures of the nice scenery.
a field of marshmallows...
(I wondered where marshmallows came from)
Worthington Glacier (approx 45 minutes to Valdez)
Bridal Veil Falls
the longest close-up waterfall that
we have seen on this trip...gorgeous...and
with the wild flowers in front of it ...
stunning in my eyes
a stream ran through this side and out the other side
We went to Valdez Boat Harbor. It is nice there and seems to be tidier and cleaner than a lot of boat harbors.
After looking around the harbor bay area, we went back to our RV's. Ginger cooked a tasty dinner of smothered ground turkey patties in beefy-flavored gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans and corn. Thanks Ginger.
After we watched Big Brother on TV, we all went to the Valdez fish weir on Valdez Bay. It was quite a sight... the number of salmon that was in Valdez Bay and that area of the weir is unbelievable. Also, there were several huge sea lions, seals, sea gulls, sea otters in the weir area catching their dinner. The weir holds back the salmon because there is too many in the stream and the stream can't support that many fish. I think salmon fishing is in the near future for us.
Wow, everytime you turn around the sights surpass those that we just saw...Alaska is special, especially if you love nature.
Oh, we also saw a brown bear on the opposite side of the weir. It has been told that the bears will be seen at the weir catching fish and eating them so I think we will be going to the weir quite often to experience all these awesome sights. Got a feeling, we might be staying here longer than the original 3 days planned.
Have a good one!!
