Day 18 - Drive to Top Sail Hill Preserve State Park near Destin, FL

Today is travel day.  We left Yogi Bear Jellystone Campground near Madison, FL and traveled to Top Sail Hill Preserve State Park in Santa Rosa Beach, FL (near Destin, FL...approx. 3 hours trip).

We pulled in to Topsail Hill Preserve State Park before noon and got parked and set up.

This afternoon we walked to the beautiful, white sandy beach with emerald green water.  The beach was sure to put a smile on our faces!  We were in our happy place.

The park has a trolley that you can catch a ride close to the vicinity of the beach.  We walked going to the beach; but we rode the trolley back to the camper.

When we got back to the camper we took showers and decided to go check out Destin which is very close to the campground.  We went to a sea food restaurant on the beach and was seated outside on the deck facing the beach.  There was a wedding just ending on the beach, a group of people playing volleyball, a sailboat in water, and lots of people swimming and sunning.

This area and the beautiful white sandy beaches brought a lot of good memories of approx. 21 years ago when Pops and I brought our three daughters to Destin, FL.  Actually, Bob had some kind of business seminar or something in Sandestin and we decided to go with him and go on a family vacation to Disney World after his seminar was over . We had a room at a resort on the bay.
We fell in love with the white sandy beaches then.   Now, we are here with our grandchildren, Terryn & Kolton, to experience the beautiful beaches and this area.

  1. Looks beautiful. I remember going to Destin with Pops and Grandma. I was a teenager who didn't listen much and when mom told me to wear sunscreen, I wore tanning oil. I was miserable with a sunburn for several days but Destin was one of the highlights of my trip! I agree Terryn, the ocean is amazing. (Mom). Glad to see you all having such a good time. I hope your good for Pops and Grandma. You both are very lucky kids to get to do all of this! We miss you back home but love to see those smiling faces in the pics! Love you both! Mom and Dad

  3. The Emerald Coast is my favorite part of Florida, and we visit as often as we can. We've eaten at Pompano Joes don't recall anything about the food but loved overlooking the water!
