Day 3 of Our RV Journey to Canada & Alaska - 5/15/14 (Traveling to Custer, South Dakota)

Last night we decided that today's departure time would be 9:00 am.  We are traveling to Custer SD which is close to Rapid City SD.

Before we left, Bob went and topped off the fuel tanks ($3.849 diesel x 16.888 gal = $65.00 Ch)

We arrived at Custer's Gulch RV Park & Campground in Custer SD at  1:15 pm.  We plan to stay here for three nights.  ($37.03 Full H/U x 3 = $111.09 Ch).

We got set-up, ate some lunch and then we went sight-seeing in Jesse's truck.  First, we went to Mount Rushmore.  It is really beautiful there.  Mount Rushmore is very nice and I was impressed by the entryway/courtyard area that leads tourists to the overlook to view Mount Rushmore.  One interesting fact I learned is that 90% of the carving of Mount Rushmore was done by dynamite.

After going to Mount Rushmore, we drove through Custer State Park where bison roam in the wild.

We are so excited to get to add another state sticker to our RV Travel Map....this is the third day in a row we have got to do this.....so, here I am adding South Dakota.....

  2. We are certainly going to enjoy our virtual journey with you! Enjoy, enjoy! It's already bringing back lots of wonderful memories for us and I'm sure will show us some highlights we missed and we'll want to go back again.......as if we don't want to already! I, too, got so excited to add another state to our map! We even had to buy a new map that includes the Canadian provinces so we could add them as well! This is truly a trip of a lifetime.
