Day 59 of Our RV Journey to Canada & Alaska 7/10/12 - Roadtrip to Homer, Alaska

Bob and I decided to take a drive to Homer today which is around 40 miles away. We needed a few grocery items and Homer is the closest town to get them at a reasonable price.  If you drive to Homer, you have to drive to Homer Spit.

We drove to the Fishing Lagoon (or also referred as the Fishing Hole) at Homer Spit.  A lot of people fish here.  While we were there, we did not see any fish caught but we did see that some of the fishermen had already caught some and had them laying on the bank.  There was a seal swimming around in this fishing area.

Since we were hungry we went to a restaurant on the Spit and shared a crab cake basket.  I thought is was tasty but expensive for the amount of food they served...but that's nothing new for Alaska...all the restaurants are expensive, no matter if it is a burger & fries, ....that's just the way they roll in Alaska!!!   We, tightwads, just share a meal so that at least we can eat and taste some of the food here.  We usually share a drink, too, if we drink something other than water...but today, Bob ordered, so we had our 'own' drink...he's not as frugal as I am.  LOL!!!

We checked out the camping areas; also walked the boardwalk
and went in some of the shops.  The shops have
 some pretty flowers growing outside.

love these cabbage-type plants

One of the shops had a walrus mount hanging on the wall.

We got our groceries and then went back to the campground in Ninilchik.  Ginger fixed Chicken Chili and Cornbread for dinner which really tasted good on this cloudy, cool, wet day and afterwards we played 4 games of Sequence (score:  guys 2/girls 2).
